Sleeping Bag Safety Guide
Olive&Moss sleeping bags are the safe alternative to traditional bedding. There are no blankets to kick off so your baby stays safe and warm during the night.
Sleeping Safety
Advice for parents to reduce the risk of cot death:
· Never let anyone smoke in the same room as your baby.
· Do not place your baby on their front or side to sleep, rather place them on their back. Remember to keep your baby’s head uncovered at all times.
· Don’t let your baby get too hot. Generally, a short sleeved bodysuit will be sufficient for warmer nurseries in summer, and a long sleeved bodysuit, pyjamas or sleepsuit will be more suitable for cooler nurseries and in the winter months.
· To prevent your baby from wriggling down under the covers, place them with their feet to the foot of the cot.
· Do not sleep with your baby on a sofa or armchair.
· For the first six months, the safest place for your baby to sleep is in a room with you, in a crib or cot.
· It is extremely dangerous for your baby to sleep in the same bed as you. If either you (or your partner) have been drinking alcohol or taking any medication or drugs that make you feel drowsy, or if you are just very tired, you could roll over in your sleep and suffocate the baby. There is also a risk that your baby could roll out of your bed and be injured.
· Using a dummy to settle your baby to sleep, both during the day and at night can reduce the risk of cot death, even if the dummy falls out while your baby is sleeping.
Caring For Your Sleeping Bag:
· Machine wash your sleeping bag at 40°C with items of a similar colour.
· To make your sleeping bag last longer, turn it inside out and zip it up before washing, tumble drying and ironing. Always zip up gently as the zip will run more smoothly for longer.
· Iron on a warm (not hot) setting so as not to burn the item. Do not iron the zip as this could lead to melting.
· Tumble dry on a low heat setting. Hot cycles may cause the item to shrink and the colours to fade.
Warning:
· This sleeping bag is for use in a crib or cot.
· Check and touch your baby regularly to check their temperature. Make sure they are not too warm or too cold. Do not be afraid to consult a health professional if you have any doubts.
· Keep away from fire.
· Never use a sleeping bag at the same time as a duvet. The sleeping bag is intended to be used alone, instead of traditional bedding.
· If the fastenings are damaged, do not use the sleeping bag.
